Mother casts a shadow
A land art installation made while in residency at the Alchemy Art Center in Friday Harbor, Washington. Beginning on the birthday of a recently separated lover, I traced the shadow of a large Douglas Fir tree every day at high noon over the course of a week. I then filled in its shadow with hundreds of fallen fir cones, creating the “shadow” of the mother tree both in actual space, and projected into the future through the bodies of its progeny. The installation was on display during the summer of 2018.
